About Croft Cottage Holidays

Croft Cottage Holidays offers two holiday cottages – The Roost and The Old Forge. Both cottages are located in the heart of the Wye Valley countryside in the hamlet of Hom Green, just 2 miles south of Ross-on-Wye.

The Roost is a detached annexe which is a modern, comfortable and informal 2 bedroom self catered home away from home. The accommodation comprises of a double bedroom, a single bedroom which has the addition of a pull-out single bed to accommodate a fourth person, a shower room, a double height combined kitchen, lounge and dining area and also a private patio area. The Roost is not suitable for dogs.

The Old Forge is a country retreat suitable for families of all ages. It has 3 bedrooms, a fully equipped country kitchen with log burner and Victorian drying rack, a private enclosed garden for you to relax and enjoy a glass of wine to unwind after a long day exploring the Wye Valley. The Old Forge accepts up to 2 well behaved dogs.

The Roost and the Old Forge are within one minutes walk of each other and can be booked together for larger parties (which would sleep 10 combined).

The Roost and The Old Forge are a great base to explore the scenic Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, Malvern Hills and of course the beautiful 3 counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.

You can enjoy walking, canoeing and paddle boarding along the River Wye, bird-watching, stargazing, fishing and as well as visiting well  known attractions such as Symonds Yat, Hereford Cathedral, Monmouth, Gloucester Cathedral, Goodrich Castle and Tintern Abbey.

After a hard day exploring why not have a gentle stroll through the fields into Ross-on-Wye to the array of shops, restaurants, coffee shops and bars which is just 2 miles away.

Our Philosophy: Sustainable Living

Sustainability is a way of life for us wherever possible! We grow much of our own fruit & vegetables, compost organic waste and recycle what we can. Nothing is wasted – if we don’t eat it the hens, cat or ducks usually will.

A heat recovery ventilation system is used in the Roost which recovers 95% of the heat that you would otherwise lose through normal ventilation. We also use low energy light bulbs, have solar tubes fitted to the roofs of the cottages to provide energy efficient hot water to all the bathrooms, so hopefully never any shortage of hot water for guests. We have solar panels fitted to both cottages to generate electricity with any surplus produced being fed back to the Grid and it goes without saying we use environmentally friendly cleaning products.

Foxtail distillery (which is also a part of the Croft Cottage Holidays family) is a finalist for a Rural Business Award (RBA) for Sustainability and Environmental Impact 2020/2021…. The overall winner will be announced soon!

Our ‘buy local’ philosophy also supports our sustainable lifestyle, by supporting local shops and businesses.
